Advisory comitees
The Advisory Committees comprise representatives of member companies, work to a three-year forward plan and advise the Board of Directors on their respective issues of:
- Statistics
- Safety
- Health
- Environmental & Energy
- Communication & Promotion
- Bauxite & Alumina
- Recycling
Their activities include commissioning research and conducting surveys, organising workshops and conferences, promoting globally the importance of their respective area, preparing publications and disseminating relevant information within or outside the industry
Statistics Committees
The Statistics Committee looks at statistical matters of concern to the aluminium industry. It both advises the Board and provides a forum in which statistical issues of common interest to producers can be discussed. It seeks to maintain, and if possible expand, the list of sources of statistical data of interest to the industry and to other users of the IAI's published information.
Safety Committee
The Safety Committee's focus is on safety and accident prevention in the industry. It both advises the Board and provides a forum in which safety and accident prevention issues of common interest to producers can be discussed, and individual producer experiences in the safety and accident prevention field shared. Specific activities include:
- improving the IAI Accident Reporting System
- identifying risks and developing specific initiatives
including voluntary guidelines, to address industry hazards.
Health Committee
The Health Committee looks at health matters of concern to the industry. It both advises the Board and provides a forum in which health issues (community, occupational and public) of common interest to producers can be discussed and individual producer experiences in the health field shared.
Environmental & Energy Committee
The role of the Environmental and Energy Committee is to look at environmental matters of concern to the Industry. It both advises the Board and provides a forum in which environmental issues of common interest to producers can be discussed and individual producer experiences in the environmental field shared. Subgroups are the Climate Change Taskforce and the Sustainable Aluminium Working Group.
Communication & Promotion Committee
The Communication and Promotion Committee has been set up to advise the Board on such issues as the IAI internet site, the public image of aluminium and the generic promotion of aluminium.
Bauxite & Alumina Committee
The Bauxite & Alumina Committee focuses on environmental matters of concern to the bauxite mining and alumina refining branches of the industry. It both advises the Board and provides a forum in which mining and refining issues of common interest to producers can be discussed and individual producer experiences in this field shared.
Global Aluminium Recycling Committee
This committee advises the board and brings together aluminium producers and regional and national aluminium associations to highlight the substantial advantages aluminium enjoys relative to competing materials in terms of recyclability and substantial development. The committee collects global statistics and models future flows in order to predict scrap volumes from applications such as transport, construction and packaging.
